floosie

floosie
n
a disreputable, immoral, 'loose-living' or frivolous female. A late-19th-century word which is still in use (now usually said lightheartedly). The word origi-nated in the USA, but by the end of World War II was in widespread use elsewhere. It is probably a deformation of 'flossy', an archaic word for a prosti-tute (itself deriving from 'flossy', mean-ing 'showy', or from the female nickname).

Contemporary slang . 2014.
